How to Help

There are lots of ways to help. From pot washing to potato peeling, meeting and greeting to gravy pouring, everyone can play their part.

Four times of year, we pull on our trainers, grab a messenger bag and pound the pavements, putting magazines through doors in the local area. You can do as much or as little as you like. Take responsibility for your own street or get to know somewhere new. Free refreshments are provided. See our next distribution days for more details.

To keep The Centre running, we have a range of things that we need help with. From general handyman duties to lawn cutting to deliveries, please speak to Sharon if there’s an area that you might be able to help with on a regular basis.

We run several large scale events at The Centre and regular shows and trips. We always need extra helpers to make sure people have the best experience possible. It might be helping out on a stall, making cups of tea, checking names off a list or marshalling the lantern parade. If you think you could help on a one-off basis please talk to us and we’ll let you know when the next opportunities might be. Our quarterly magazine showcases all the people living and working in the area and celebrates their achievements. It helps to connect people to services and activities and shows what the local area has to offer. Ways to help:

• Provide content for the magazine. Send us your stories, news and pictures. See Maryport Matters for more information.
• Advertise in Maryport Matters. Advertising starts from as little as £40. See Maryport Matters for more information.
• Help with distribution day. See above for more details or our What's On page to find out about the next one.
• Sponsor Maryport Matters. Our publication is not for profit and relies heavily on advertising and funding. We can offer a great package of benefits for anyone who wants to sponsor the magazine. Please contact kate@thecentrewestcumbria.com for more details.
• Tell people about us! Word of mouth is the best recommendation. If you like our magazine – please tell a friend, relative or work colleague. Pass your copy on or direct them to the digital copy online.

As a registered charity, we are not for profit and rely on fundraising to operate. Many of our activities are free and where we do charge, we try to keep the costs as low as possible. We are always overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of local residents who often want to donate to show their appreciation. To this end, we often have donation buckets at events and activities where you may contribute, if you wish. Sometimes people like to remember a loved one who has passed away, with a donation to The Centre. For anyone wishing to do so, we have a scheme in place to help with this.  Please speak to Kate or Sharon at The Centre for more information. We sometimes run raffles and competitions and are always on the lookout for prizes. Please see noticeboards at The Centre and facebook for current call outs and requests.

We are always grateful for any individuals or organisations who want to raise money for our charity through sponsored activities or events. Please contact us to discuss how we can support you.
