The Centre is available for hire to individuals, community groups and organisations.

Information about hiring The Centre

The Centre is regularly hired for a range of community purposes including training, meetings and conferences, community groups, rehearsals and performances and parties.

Where are you located?

The Centre is on the corner of Ennerdale Road and The Arches in Ewanrigg, opposite The Boys Club.

We are a two minute walk from a corner shop and 15 minutes’ walk from Maryport train station.

What spaces / rooms are available?

Main hall which can seat 70 people around tables and can seat up to 100 with fewer tables, plus small office with desk and chairs which can seat up to six people – named as Office 1 on the floor plan.

How much is it?

Rates vary depending on space, time and type of usage.

As a guideline, competitive rates start from £15 an hour for the main hall and office space. For more information see The Centre Hire Fees, Terms and Conditions at the bottom of the page.

Subject to prior bookings, The Centre is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Is there any parking?

Free on street parking around The Centre – and / or by arrangement, the games court can be used for offroad parking.

Can you help me promote my activity and / or event?

We may be able to help with coverage in Maryport Matters, with digital support via our website and social media channels, and by displaying printed material in The Centre building. We can’t always respond at short notice so please to talk to us at the earliest possible opportunity about how we may be able to help.

N.B please indicate if this is a one-off hire or a repeat booking. For repeat bookings please specify your first date of booking, any repeat booking dates, whether your regular booking continues during school/bank holidays, and your last date of booking.

Please hire The Centre from the time that the first person is expected to arrive (including setting up time) until the last person is expected to leave (including tidying up time). Please note that for operational reasons, The Centre tries to avoid bookings of less than two hours – this is reflected in our hire rates.

THE CENTRE HIRE FEES POLICY

The Centre is a West Cumbrian charity that provides social and creative opportunities for people to connect and grow. We are based at The Centre, a community building in Ewanrigg, Maryport. We are a tiny team made up almost entirely of volunteers, who work hard to keep The Centre doors open for the benefit of the local community. We aim to attract donations, funding, and income to keep everything we do affordable. It costs us approximately £40 in lighting, heating and safety compliance just to open the doors of The Centre for the morning/afternoon or evening. The Centre hire rates are kept as low as possible. THE CENTRE HIRE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By hiring The Centre, you are accepting the terms and conditions below.

HIRE TIMES: please note that if you need time to set up before, or clear up after your event, please make sure that the time you have booked reflects this. If the hirer arrives before the agreed time and/or does not leave by the agreed time, The Centre reserves the right to charge the hirer per hour accordingly.

CANCELLATION POLICY: in most circumstances we won’t charge you if you give us 14 days’ notice of cancellation. To cancel a booking, you need to inform the office by phone, email or by calling in. If you cancel within 14 days of your hire date, we will usually charge you for the hire as we otherwise lose income because we are unlikely to be able to fill this booking slot at short notice.

REFRESHMENTS: included in your hire fee is the use of The Centre’s supply of tea bags, instant coffee, sugar, and milk for up to 60 attendees. For events with an anticipated footfall of more than 60 people we will negotiate an additional charge to cover refreshments or agree for you to provide your own.

CLEANING: The Centre prides itself on its cleanliness. As a hirer please note:

The Centre must be left as it is found otherwise you may incur a min £50 cleaning charge.
Kitchen utensils/crockery can be used but please wash, dry, and leave everything as you found it.
All breakages must be paid for.
Bins are situated around The Centre please use them and recycle where possible.

INSURANCE: Most hirers need their own insurance policy to cover their activities at The Centre. This includes groups that…

Are a commercial organisation or take money for their activities
Have a written constitution, a formal membership or management committee
Carry out any activities at other locations
Store any property on the premises
Offer activity that includes any of the following types of activity, please note that this is a non-exhaustive list - offering counselling or advice whether given for a fee or not; use of bouncy castles, other land-based inflatables, or trampolines; litter picks or similar ‘clean up’ activities; use of gym equipment; selling second hand goods; using face paints and/or henna tattoos; fireworks; bonfires; use of outdoor adventure or playground equipment and/or loaned or hired mobility equipment.

LICENCING:

The Centre does not permit the selling of alcohol.
The Centre does not permit the hosting of entertainment or serving of hot food after 11pm within The Centre.
The Centre does not permit anyone in The Centre to be plugged into the mains to watch or record programmes as they’re being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, or to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer. This applies to any device you use.

SAFEGUARDING:

If your event involves young people aged 18 and under, and/or vulnerable adults you must have a Safeguarding Policy in place - private parties are exempt.

SAFETY:

No naked flames to be used in The Centre.
The named hirer is responsible for ensuring that entrances and exits are kept clear, for supervision of the premises, the fabric and the contents of the space hired and for the care, safety and behaviour of all persons using the premises.
The Centre accepts no responsibility for any stored equipment or other property brought onto or left at the premises and all liability for loss or damage is excluded.
A first aid box is kept in the kitchen. In the event of an accident please update the accident book in the kitchen and inform The Centre.
In the event of problems with the heating, alarm system, fuse box etc please phone the emergency number displayed on the kitchen cupboards.

RESPECT:

The Centre is a residential area. At all times please be respectful of the surrounding community regarding acceptable noise levels.
The Centre reserves the right to refuse bookings if deemed to be unfit for the intended use of The Centre.
The Centre welcomes all feedback.
